Winter Harvest: Your Must-Have Guide to the Top 10 Seasonal Fruits Right Now

Ever stumbled upon the concept of seasonal eating? It wasn’t on my radar until it became a recurring theme in a lot of wellness readings I was coming across. Intrigued, I decided to dive into some research. Turns out, it’s a fascinating world! With winter on the horizon, I thought it’d be smart to get a jump on the seasonal Winter fruits to keep an eye out for.

Eating with the seasons is basically doing just that, eating what local farmers just picked for a particular season.

Why bother? Well, studies say the closer you get to the harvest date, the better it is for you. Freshly picked fruits and veggies pack more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants! They’re like a superhero squad defending you against serious diseases, unlike the well-traveled produce that spends ages on store shelves. And let’s talk about the taste — it’s on a whole different level. Produce is at its peak, abundant, ripe, and bursting with flavor when it’s in season.

Here’s another the kicker — buying locally grown, seasonal food isn’t just good for your body, it’s kind to your wallet too. With every local farmer harvesting similar crops, when there’s an abundance of produce, grocery stores supporting local farmers often slash prices.

Not only that, but eating seasonally also helps the planet. When grocery stores bring in fresh fruits and veggies from far and wide, they have to shell out cash to haul everything in by truck, boat, or even plane. And guess what? That cost gets passed on to you, but it’s not just about the money. Those big cargo rides guzzle up gas and oil like there’s no tomorrow, churning out carbon dioxide that messes with our climate. So, when you snag local goodies, you’re not just saving on emissions, you’re giving Mother Earth a big big hug.

Now, notice that a bunch of the fruits on our list are known to be jam-packed with vitamin C. And let’s face it, when winter hits, sniffles, flu, and all the yuckies follow. It’s a true testament to how the Earth’s got our backs when we pay attention.

Without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at some of the best fruits to keep your eye on this upcoming winter!
